this week saw me having the wonderful honour and privilege of being able to perform at the old capitol cinema in mainz as part of the 'rubbert twist & friends' spectacular, organised by the legendary folk themselves, and featuring a host of guest appearances including knertz's very own plus with a glorious solo set, which culminated in an evening of rather magical happenings indeed.
for my own part, the chance to play in an antiquated cinema in front of a screen filled with visuals co-ordinated by the unrelentless adrian woodhouse, bore the opportunity for me to perform a rather special iron filings and sellotape set, featuring a host of songs from the recently unveiled album to black & white scenes of aerial bombadment, shelling, and similar horrors of war. an intense experience indeed, but one which was most warmly received by the highly attentive audience gathered.
still, my own involvement in the evening was escalated to dizzying heights when i was able to grace the stage alongside the immense rubbert twist to perform two songs from my own humble repertoire in the form of 'the only dance i can do' and 'mask of sanity', and such storming renditions they were indeed, a real highlight to be sure.
almost needless to say, rubbert twist absolutely murdered their performance. i believe it is only the third time i have got to see them perform live but, sitting there in the old cinema, watching them unravel a seamless journey though such varied musical soundscapes to the psychedelic visuals unfolding behind them really was a stunning experience indeed... be sure to keep your eyes pealed for further happenings in the future.
